932 Kifer Garage

Sunnyvale, CA

2025

When a structure is for more than just parking.

This garage in Silicon Valley needed to meet the level of technology and innovation the area is known for. It begins with 1,618 stalls for the adjacent Life Sciences campus, but it doesn’t stop there.

The exterior facade was designed with unique glass panels that replicated neighboring buildings’ visual presence, while maintaining the required ventilation for code compliance. The footprint also includes a Central Utilities Plant for its neighboring HQ building, including tanks, boilers and chillers. The garage was also designed to accommodate 35% of its capacity for EV charging, with provisions for an additional 35% in the future. And that’s where the extensive solar paneling comes into the equation. Unfortunately, the gorgeous play of light on the panels at sunrise and sunset is mostly lost to visitors, but it’s shown here in my image set (commissioned by the architect, general contractor and glass supplier) for all to see!
